Officials: Detainee captured after running away from Midlands hospital

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Deputies say a detainee who ran off from Lexington Medical Center has been apprehended.

A SLED helicopter, police K9s and more than a dozen units from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department were searching for 37-year-old Corey Eaglin after he escaped from detained custody.

Authorities arrested Eaglin on Monday morning following a domestic violence incident. He was taken to the hospital Monday morning for injuries from the domestic violence incident and escaped at about 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Just how Eaglin escaped is not clear at this point. Investigators focused much of their search on areas across Highway 378 in West Columbia.

"Our main concern was the children," said John Augustus, of Columbia.

Security at businesses, like the His Will Thrift Store, was stepped up.

"The concern was nobody getting injured or anything like that," Augustus said. "We are OK now."
