Second suspicious package not deemed threatening, roadways set to reopen shortly

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Officials with the Columbia Police Department had a busy morning on Wednesday with not one, but two suspicious packages that had to be investigated.

According to CPD, the latest suspicious item, which was located at Assembly and Washington streets, has been given the all clear. Officers say no hazardous materials were found and the roadways are set to reopen shortly.

That package was found just down the road from the previous suspicious package at Assembly and Taylor streets.

The first package was not deemed a threat as well, but officials closed that section of downtown Columbia to investigate.

Columbia Police officers and firefighters also responded.

No word yet on what exactly was found at the scenes.
