South Carolina Pride Festival takes over Main Street
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Pride Festival celebrated 27 years in Columbia Saturday.
Organizers estimate nearly 35,000 people attended the festival on Main Street.
We spoke with a board member of South Carolina Equality who said she's been attending for the past 25 years. She said this is the first year there were no protesters at the festival –- something she believes is a step in the right direction in her fight for equality.
"You always have a little bit of fear in your heart. With the violence in the world and the things that have happened this year but nobody is afraid here today. Everybody is happy.," said SC Equality board member Malissa Burnette.
The event ends at 7 p.m.
