CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A white former police officer charged in the shooting death of a black motorist is returning to a federal courtroom in South Carolina.
The 50-year-old Scott was shot fleeing a traffic stop in an incident caught on cellphone video. The shooting reignited the national debate over the treatment of blacks by white police officers.
It's Slager's first appearance in federal court since his May arraignment.
The former North Charleston patrolman is charged with depriving Scott of his civil rights and using a weapon while doing so.
Slager also faces a murder charge in state court in a trial beginning in October.
