Chickens, collision cause congestion on I-20

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - An accident and some loose chickens caused traffic congestion on I-20 near Broad River Road Monday night.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the accident was one mile west of Exit 63. Lance Corporal David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said two cars were involved in the accident.

Initially, all eastbound lanes in the area were closed due to the collision.

Jones said serious injuries were reported from the collision. All eastbound lanes are now open.

Meanwhile, chickens were reportedly in the roadway on the westbound side of Interstate 20 in the same area.

Jones said a tractor-trailer was carrying a load of chickens when a cage either fell or came open along the highway allowing 15 to 20 chickens to escape. The truck carrying the chicken kept going.

Traffic stopped and waited for Highway Patrol while the chickens were on the interstate. No lanes were closed on the westbound side.
