NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A ground search in Newberry County on Saturday for a man who has been missing for nearly a month did not yield any results, according to the Newberry County Sheriff.

A search team of personnel from the Sheriff's Office, Newberry County Fire Departments, Newberry County Rescue Squads and South Carolina National Guard began their search at 7 a.m. Saturday morning. The search was in the area of Interstate 26 and SC Highway 121 near where Robert Lester Jones' car was found.

Jones, 32, was last seen July 24 as he was leaving Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said Jones' car was located abandoned on Queens Church Road, a dead end gravel road near I-26. There were no signs of foul play or a struggle found at or around the car. The car was located on July 26 by employees of a tree cutting service employed to clear power lines.

Foster said investigators have used a helicopter from the State Law Enforcement Division to make extensive flights over the area and have made several ground searches, including using canines without success.

Jones is described as a white male. He is 5 foot 11 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue and navy striped shirt, blue jeans, boots, and a multi-colored welder's cap. A photo of Jones is attached to this story.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, call the Newberry County Sheriff's Office at (803)-321-2211.
