Driver killed after vehicle crashes into trees, catches fire

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - One person is dead after a vehicle caught fire on early Sunday morning after colliding with multiple trees.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say a car was traveling north on Clement Road at about 12:35 a.m. when it went off the right side of the road and collided with multiple trees. The car caught fire after it hit the trees.

The driver of the car died at the scene, according to troopers. The victim's identity has not been released by the county coroner. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The crash remains under investigation by SCHP.
