Suspect killed in Midlands officer-involved shooting identified

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - The Lexington County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the man killed during an officer-involved shooting on Glenda Court on Monday morning.
According to Coroner Margaret Fisher, Bryan N. Byrd, 43, was fatally wounded in the upper body and died at the scene.
Byrd, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, struck a deputy who had arrived at the scene to investigate Byrd for burglary and pointing and presenting a firearm. The deputy then discharged his weapon, shooting Byrd.

The deputy was treated and released from the hospital. He was also placed on administrative leave, per State Law Enforcement Division protocol. SLED has also taken over the investigation.
