DORCHESTER COUNTY (WIS) - An investigation is underway after a 24-year-old inmate at Lieber Correctional Institution was found dead in his cell overnight, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Ryan Mansfield, who was housed at the facility on grand larceny and burglary charges, was killed following an incident with his cellmate, Michael Jerome Brice, DOC spokeswoman Stephanie Givens said in a statement.
Brice had been previously arrested on charges that he sold crack cocaine near a Rock Hill elementary school.
"Agents with the South Carolina Department of Corrections Office of the Inspector General are investigating the incident," Givens said in the statement.
Givens said one dorm wing remains on lockdown while the investigation continues.
