CPD officer finds stolen gun in traffic stop for speeding

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Columbia Police officer found a stolen gun when he pulled over a vehicle for speeding Thursday.

Police say an officer pulled over the vehicle for speeding on Lester Drive just after 11 p.m. June 23rd. During the traffic stop, the officer noticed a pistol sitting in plain view in the center console.

The officer confirmed nobody inside the vehicle had a concealed weapons permit. Deontra Tykwon Cromer claimed responsibility for the gun.

The officer determined the gun was reported stolen out of North Carolina.

The driver was charged for speeding. Cromer was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen pistol, unlawful carrying of a pistol and giving false information to police. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
