SALUDA COUNTY (WIS) - Former Saluda County Sheriff Jason Booth's attempt at regaining the office appears to have ended, according to unofficial election results from Saluda County.

With all precincts reporting, Booth has lost the Republican Party primary against Robin Freeman 2,111 votes to 935 votes.

In speaking with Freeman just hours ago, he said he's taking the win in stride and already looking ahead to his next challenge.

"I'm gonna stay on message about having deputies at our schools every morning. I'm gonna stay on message about getting people out of the office and getting them to work to better protect our citizens," Freeman said. "We all gotta work together, and I think if I stay on message, people will understand that and they will vote for me in November."

Booth was the Sheriff in the county for many years but had to resign after he was indicted on charges of misconduct in office. According to prosecutors, Booth used an inmate for work on his private property during a period of almost six years.

Freeman now goes on to face incumbent Sheriff John Perry for the elected law enforcement position.
