LITTLE MOUNTAIN, S.C. (AP) - The Newberry County Coroner's Office has identified the man whose body was found after firefighters put out a fire at his home over the weekend.

Sheriff Lee Foster says rescuers found the body at the home on Glade Spring Road in Little Mountain after firefighters put out the blaze around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Chief Deputy Coroner Lewis Lee says the man is 48-year-old David Peter Ashworth, Jr. An autopsy revealed he died of carbon monoxide poisoning and thermal injuries. Lee says Ashworth made it out the home just before he died.

Foster says he has asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate because there were no witnesses to the fire and no one else appeared to be inside the home.

The cause of the fire has not been released but remains under investigation. The coroner's office says it does not appear to involve criminal intent.
