Escaped SCDC inmate spotted in Newberry County

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - An escaped inmate from the Walden Correctional Institution who authorities consider dangerous has been spotted in Newberry County.

The Department of Corrections says 24-year-old Catrell Davis got away around 5:30 Thursday evening.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office says Davis was reportedly spotted with a young woman and her child near Keitt's Crossroad with an accomplice later in the evening. Davis reportedly let a young woman and her child out of a car. The woman reportedly did not know Davis was an escapee.

After the incident, Davis and a female accomplice reportedly left the area in a grey Hyundai with a hatchback.

Deputies do not believe he is still in the area near Keitt's Crossroads.

The Department of Corrections says Davis had been serving time since 2012 on assault and battery charges. He has previous arrests for armed robbery and weapons charges.

He is considered dangerous. SCDC officials say he could be headed to Fairfield County.
