COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - This week law enforcement officers nationwide will be recognized for their sacrifice in keeping our communities safe. It's part of National Police Week.

Some agencies around the Midlands have events planned to honor local heroes. One officer with the Columbia Police Department says it's a privilege to be able to serve the community.
"We appreciate their support and we will continue to support them as well. We'll continue to stand in the front lines to help whenever we are needed and whenever we're called upon. This is not going to deter us from doing our jobs -- it actually motivates us more," says Sergeant Daniel Wesley.
Sgt. Wesley served on the same squad as fallen CPD officer, Stacy Case, a reason he says it's important to remember the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty as well.
