COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The tax deadline clock is ticking and by 11:59 tonight your state and federal tax forms from 2015 need to be submitted. The tax-filing deadline was extended three days this year because of a federal holiday in Washington.
If you're on the clock to get them done financial consultants say watch closely how you fill out your forms. When you're rushed the experts say it's easy to make mistakes like transposing your social security number, misspelling words, or numerical errors. And if you make mistakes, it will prolong the process of getting your tax return.
"If you're an individual, you're single, and you don't have a lot of exemptions outside of the standard, it could take 30 minutes for you to key that information in. But if you're somebody that is going to do itemizations or if you're somebody that has a small business, a lot of investments, it could take some time. Again, it depends on if you're doing it or if you're hiring out an expert to have it done for you," says financial consultant Karen Jenkins.
If you fear you won't have your tax forms in by the deadline, Jenkins says you can file for an extension, which would need to be requested by 11:59 tonight.
