NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - Nothing brings people together quite like good barbecue and that was what happened in downtown Newberry on Saturday for the 10th annual Pork in the Park festival.
More than 13 teams put their skills to the test to compete for the best barbecue. There was also live bluegrass music and a beer garden.
Organizers say there is something unique about the way cooking a homemade meal can bring a community together.
"Springtime, barbecue, bluegrass, beer. The three B's barbecue, bluegrass and beer - it's a great time to get out and sort of get together in great weather," said Matt Dewitt, Assistant City Manager.
"I think we bring a flavor to South Carolina that people from South Carolina don't get. We get a lot of our rubs from out towards Kansas. I went to Barbeque school out in Kansas, and so we like to share that over here in South Carolina," said Jamie Monts, of Biggy Boys Barbeque.
All proceeds from the festival go to Relay for Life.
