COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Gone but not forgotten -- the Richland County Sheriff's Department honored a fallen K-9 deputy in front of their headquarters Wednesday afternoon.

Richland County Deputy Max Anderson and his K-9 Robby were honored today after Robby died in the line of duty on March 16. Robby was diagnosed with medical condition, leaving the sheriff's department to say goodbye to the unsung hero.

Robby's memory will live on at the Richland County Sheriff's Department with a painting and his name inscribed in a plaque.

Deputy Anderson says the bond with his K-9 was like any other.

"Him always being there," Anderson said. "I remember going out into our backyard seeing him smiling and running around and barking. He is a family member and we really miss that. There is an empty gap that we are trying to fill right now."

Robby was a part of the police force since April 2009.
