Edna's on River Drive to close its doors on March 31st
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A well-known Columbia burger joint will shut its doors for good at the end of this month.
Edna's on River Drive is closing down on March 31st.
Members of the family business say there are a number of reasons the business is closing. The owners are deceased and the 60-year-old building has many issues. Still, the local spot's regular customers will miss it.
"It's a small business… and it's a small Mom and Pop restaurant that you like to support," said regular customer, Tyyona Schofield.
Schofield, like many, says she and her husband flock to the drive-in spot for the joint's hot dogs. While many regulars are getting their fill before the shop closes, many stood outside in the lunch-time heat, Friday, because they had never tried the food, and they'd heard many good things.
Others, who say they discovered the place within the last couple of months, say they're sad to see it go.
"It actually does make me sad. For them to be out for so long and for them to actually close it now, you don't really see businesses last that long anymore," said Kyle Bivens, another customer.
Bivens recently discovered Edna's, and says he has been coming twice a week since August.
The family wants to be clear there is nothing anyone can do to save the business, and a fundraiser started online Thursday will not help keep Edna's open. They're urging people to not donate because the business will be closing March 31st.
