Political TV ad spending tops $4 million since first of year

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Across the Midlands, presidential candidates and the political action committees that support them have spent an estimated $4 million, increasing more than half a million in one week's time.

One-third of that money has been spent by the candidates' campaigns, but PACs account for the other two-thirds, a whopping majority of the money cashed in for TV time.

Taking a look at the state as a whole with just days to go until the Republican primary, the top three candidates according to the polls have spent close to $3.5 million.

While top in the polls, Donald Trump is a lower spender cashing in only $600,000 on TV ads in South Carolina in 2016. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have spent significantly more at close to $1.3 million and $1.6 million respectively.
