COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The University of South Carolina Women's Basketball team will be in the national spotlight Monday night as the No. 2 Gamecock women host No. 1 Connecticut at Colonial Life Arena.

Women's Head Coach Dawn Staley said she wanted to pack out Colonial Life Arena and it has happened. The game is sold out.

And while the atmosphere of the arena will help, it's going to be a difficult game.  Both teams are undefeated.

The Gamecocks ran their best-in-the-nation home win streak to 45 games with a 78-68 win over No. 18 Kentucky Thursday night. And now they're looking to take on the best in the nation.

The two top-ranked teams played last year in Connecticut, where the Huskies ripped off a win against Dawn Staley's squad and the Gamecocks don't want that to happen again.

"I think we're excited but I think at the same time we're prepared and we're prepping for them," said A'ja Wilson.

"I think it just gives us an opportunity to measure ourselves against a powerhouse, a tradition of UConn, and to do it on our home-court I think it's a great confidence booster for us," Staley said.

It's the first time ever the Gamecock women's team will play in front of a sold out crowd at Colonial Life Arena.

"I'm feeling really good," said student Alicia Walsh. "It's really exciting to have a women's team that people are enjoying going to."

Steven Shannon: "I'm feeling really confident in the team," said student Steven Shannon. "They know what's at stake when they face a great opponent like UConn. And I'm going to be there cheering them on."

Fans are encouraged to wear garnet to the game.

The game tips off at at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

WIS will have live pregame coverage starting in our newscasts at 4 p.m.
