RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Deputies in Richland County say shots were exchanged between a suspect and a clerk at a video store during an armed robbery Sunday night.

Lt. Curtis Wilson says it happened around 11 p.m. Sunday at the Video Express in the 2700 block of Two Notch Road.

Deputies say the suspect robbed the cash register at gunpoint and then shot the clerk in the torso after being told the safe could not be accessed. The clerk managed to get a gun and fire back, but missed.

The robber ran away.

The clerk was taken to a hospital with injuries that deputies describe as not life-threatening.
