ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - For the first time in its history, the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office has its first black female captain.
Captain Antonia Turkvant asked the sheriff and her 99-year-old grandmother to help pin on her new rank. She hopes young girls will see her as a role model.
"I want them to know that nothing is impossible," Turkvant said. "I grew up right here in Orangeburg, went to school right her in Orangeburg, Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. So anything can happen. God is able to open up doors no man can shut, He will move mountains for you and I believe that."
Turkvant is a 17-year law enforcement veteran.
