COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia police investigators are looking to find two suspects who shot and killed a service dog on Thursday.

According to the Columbia Police Department, the dog, an 8-year-old German Rottweiler named Harlem, was shot during an armed robbery attempt while the owner's friend was walking the dog on Ardincaple Drive.

The suspects tried to steal the victim's cell phone, but shot the dog instead.

"I haven't gotten to cry yet," the owner said in a statement to CPD. " I am so upset. I cannot explain how much I love him. That was my baby."

CPD officials say the dog was used as a therapy dog to help keep the owner calm and to ease depression.

The suspects, according to CPD, fled the scene in a blue pick-up truck with a chrome tool box in the truck bed.

One suspect is described as a black male wearing a black hoodie and black ski mask. The other suspect, meanwhile, is described as a black male in his mid 20's wearing a sky blue wind breaker jacket.
