SUMTER, SC (WIS) - A Sumter County Sheriff's Deputy responding to a crash scene on Lewis Road Wednesday had a difficult job to do. One of the victims was his wife.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, that accident happened around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Sumter County Deputy Coroner Rob Lybrand says 45-year-old Teresa Browder of Sumter died in the crash. She was driving an SUV involved in the crash.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office confirmed Browder was the wife of a Sumter County deputy who responded to the crash, according to officials. She was on her way to meet her husband, who was just two minutes away.

"Today was a tragic day for one of our officers, as well as our entire agency, as one of our family members deals with the loss of a loved one," sheriff's office spokesman Braden Bunch said. "We ask you keep the Browder family in your thoughts and prayers as they cope with this horrible tragedy."

Lybrand says despite wearing a seat belt, Browder died of blunt force trauma.

Browder worked as a nurse at Clarendon Memorial Hospital. The Clarendon Health System released the following statement regarding the loss of Browder:

"We are better people and a better organization for having had the privilege of knowing and working with Teresa. She was one of the most kind, giving and Christian people I have ever known.  Heaven is celebrating their new angel, and we will miss her dearly."

Richard Stokes, CEO of Clarendon Memorial Hospital, said." She was one of the most caring, compassionate nurses that I have had the fortune of working with."

Family members described Browder as full of life and a loving person. She leaves behind three daughters, ages 12, 14, and 18. Her oldest daughter is studying to become a nurse just like her mother at USC Sumter.

Teresa's funeral will be on Monday at Grace Baptist Church in Sumter.

Two other people who were involved in the crash were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.
