COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is expected to announce Wednesday if a school resource officer at Spring Valley High School will keep his job.
An internal affairs investigation will determine Senior Deputy Ben Fields' future employment with the Richland County Sheriff's Department. A news conference is scheduled for noon Wednesday to reveal the findings of the investigation.
Lott said the internal affairs investigation will determine what kind of policy violations happened in the shocking video that showed Fields slamming and dragging a female student at Spring Valley High School on Monday afternoon.

At this time, Fields remains suspended without pay. Lott said the internal affairs investigation should be completed by Wednesday.
"This is very disturbing," Lott said. "This is not something that should not drag out."
While saying the teen did hit Fields in one of the videos that was released, Lott said he's not focusing on that.
"What she does is not what I'm looking at, I am looking at what our school resource officer did," Lott said.
As for the incident itself, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice are taking the lead on the case at Lott's urging. The investigation will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
