COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Multi Grammy award-winning recording artist Lauryn Hill will headline the annual Famously Hot New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Columbia, city officials confirmed Thursday.
Hill has been well-known for her singles career as well as her time with The Fugees.
Three other local acts, Susto, ColorBlind, and the Dead 27s, have also been announced as opening acts.
The Famously Hot New Year's Eve celebration is a free party held on Main Street in downtown Columbia each year. Along with the free concert, there will also be local food trucks, pre-parties and family friendly activities. The event also holds the largest midnight fireworks display across the two Carolinas.
In response to the recent flooding in South Carolina, the Famously Hot New Year celebration will support a #SCStrong fundraising drive for the South Carolina Flood Relief Fund, created by the Central Carolina Community Foundation.
"The goal is to say 'thank you' to the people of Columbia and the Midlands for a fantastic year, a wonderful year, a special year this year in particular behind us, but also opening the door to a brand new 2016 and to burst into it with a new sense of energy," Mayor Steve Benjamin said.
The party begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 12:30 a.m.
