RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Multiple law enforcement agencies are coordinating a safety and security operation Tuesday night for neighborhoods affected by floodwaters in the Gills Creek Watershed.

The operation, which will begin at 9 p.m. Tuesday and last until sunrise Wednesday, is being organized to ensure the safety of residents returning to their homes after being displaced. Law enforcement personnel will also work to protect property of residents who are unable to return to their homes.

Members of the Columbia Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Department, USC Department of Law Enforcement and Safety, South Carolina Dept. of Corrections and the South Carolina National Guard are participating in the operation.

Columbia police say the operation is being conducted in addition to current city and county patrols that have been underway since the flooding began.

The Gills Creek Watershed includes parts of Columbia, Cayce, Forest Acres and Arcadia Lakes.
