COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Five families were displaced Monday night when heavy rain flooded their Lyon Street homes.
Red Cross officials say three inches of rain made way into five homes. Thirteen adults and three children were affected.

Red Cross disaster trained volunteers were on the scene within thirty minutes to interview and establish the needs of each family.
"What Red Cross is, it's volunteers, and it's basically neighbors helping neighbors. We have volunteers that are in the Columbia area that are on call to respond to such disasters," said Joey Hutto, Disaster Program Specialist with the American Red Cross.
Along with lodging, the organization also provided food for the group as cleanup got under way.

"They are going to be contracting cleaning services out, so we will be remaining in contact with the families, just so if they can get back in their apartments today, obviously that's the more ideal situation for the families," said Hutto.
Officials say the five affected families should be back in their homes by Tuesday night.
