Name of Newberry salon owner shot and killed Wednesday released

NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - The Newberry County Coroner has released the name of a salon owner killed Wednesday afternoon at his business in Newberry.

Interim Newberry City Police Chief Roy McClurkin tells WIS a family member discovered Roberto Facio-Ledesma, 41, dead in his Main Street salon around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Coroner Craig Newton said Facio-Ledesma died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Late Wednesday, investigators said Kenny Octavis Ruff was arrested on CR Koon Highway, just outside Prosperity.

Ruff was charged with murder and armed robbery and was transported to the Newberry County Detention Center.

Newton said Facio-Ledesma "was well-known and respected among the Hispanic community and the downtown merchants."

"He always loved both of my children equally," said friend Lupita Perez. "I'm very sorry of what has happened to him because he didn't deserve this. May he rest in peace my compadre and we will always carry him in our hearts."

Ledesma will be laid to rest on Saturday at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Newberry beginning at 4 p.m.

A vigil is scheduled begin at the chapel at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Friday night at 7 and go through the night. The funeral home will also hold a service at 11 a,m, on Saturday.
