COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Midlands fixture with a legacy of faith and learning is standing out in the national spotlight.
The 2nd annual top 50 ranking of Christian colleges and universities by Christian Universities Online ranks Columbia International University as the third best Christian college and university in the country. The honor comes from excelling in categories of personal attention to students, selectivity, readily available financial aid and overall student satisfaction.
Those deciding how to rank the colleges collected publicly available data for these schools in the following
- Faculty-to-student ratio
- Percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid
- Overall retention rate
- Overall graduation rate.
Each category received equal weight in calculating the final ranking.
Dr. Bill Jones has been president of Columbia International University for eight years. He says the CIU establishment is due largely in part to the prayers of several faithful women who had a burden for Columbia's mill workers and their families to learn the scriptures. Founded in 1923, CIU's motto is "To Know Him and To Make Him Known" and the school has diligently sought to stay true to its Biblical foundation.
World evangelization is one of the CIU's five core values as the school seeks to educate from a biblical worldview to impact the nations with the message of Christ. CIU offers 19 undergraduate majors and their average class size is 20 students. CIU also has been listed as one of the Top Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report since 2006 and Victory Media has listed the university in the top 20% of schools known for military-friendliness.
