COLUMBIA, SC (WIS/AP)
The Bureau of Protective Services arrested a woman at the State House Friday night.
Authorities say at approximately 11:55 p.m., 45-year-old Melissa High walked up to the fence surrounding the confederate flag carrying a large poster board. The woman was preparing to tape her poster board to the fence. The poster contained references to biblical passage and the Pledge of Allegiance. BPS officers advised the woman that she could not affix anything to the fence or the monument.
Moments later, High climbed over the fence surrounding the monument and was arrested without incident.
Authorities say officers found a knife in her bag, and High was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon on capitol grounds and defacing a monument.
High lives in Whitsett, North Carolina. She remained in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Saturday afternoon.
