COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A man was arrested on Monday after being involved in an altercation with a Confederate flag protester at the State House.

Video was obtained by WIS showing the altercation unfold on Gervais Street after a man exited his vehicle and approached the crowd. But a second video has surfaced showing the view from across the street before the fight takes place.

In the video, 25-year-old Nicholas Thompson is seen approaching one of the protesters. However, one of the protesters throws the first punch before Thompson makes his way into the crowd.

Thompson was later arrested and charged with disorderly conduct by the Bureau of Protective Services after confronting the anti-Confederate flag crowd.

Thompson was released on Tuesday after posting a $262 bond.

Monday's protest comes just days before another "Take the Flag Down" rally on Independence Day.

The rally will see more security as BPS has assigned more officers to the State House grounds.
