GASTON, SC (WIS) - Police have arrested a man who was wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run last week.

The Gaston Police Department identified Michael L. Gantt as the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed John D. Moore on June 30. He was arrested Tuesday.

On July 1, officers with the Gaston Police Department located a 2009 Chevrolet 3500 HD in the town of Gaston. This vehicle matched the description obtained from evidence collected at the incident scene.

Officers also observed damage to the vehicle that was consistent with injuries sustained by the victim. With assistance from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, the vehicle was seized as evidence to be processed in connection to the hit and run days prior.

Police believe the driver of that vehicle drove off after hitting Moore of Gaston. His body was discovered Tuesday morning near the intersection of Woodtrail Drive.

Investigators believe Moore's body had been there for several hours.

Police used several vehicle parts found near the victim to determine the general vehicle description.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Moore died at the scene from multiple body trauma.

The Gaston Police Department obtained arrest warrants on Gantt for Hit and Run Involving Death and Willful Destruction of Biological Evidence.
