ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A Santee man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman after she said he broke into her residence over the weekend.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office arrested 33-year-old Damien Oliver on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, first-degree burglary, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
Oliver was taken before Orangeburg County Chief Magistrate Derrick Dash, who deferred any bond consideration to a circuit court judge. Dash said Tuesday's hearing was to ensure Oliver was informed of his rights.
OCSO Victim's Advocate Karen Sanders told the court the victim was present but only to demonstrate to the court her level of concern over the subject's release. The vicitm did not address the court.
Oliver was taken into custody after a Santee teen said a man had forced entry into a home where she resided with her mother. The teen said that around 6:30 a.m. Sunday she was awakened by someone inside the home yelling demands about money.
The teen said her mother then ran into her room but was dragged out again by a man wearing what appeared to be a pair of gray boxers on his head. The man fled when he was told law enforcement had been notified.
However, the man returned brandishing a screwdriver he is said to have used to break into the house. The woman said the man grabbed her again, sexually assaulting her while threatening her with the screwdriver.
