SUMTER, SC (WIS) - An off-duty Sumter County sheriff's deputy was arrested early Saturday morning.
Robert Alden Burnish, 28, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and an open container violation.
Burnish was terminated by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office soon after.
"I do not condone, and will not tolerate this type of behavior from my deputy sheriffs," Sheriff Anthony Dennis said.
Sumter County sheriff's spokesman Braden Bunch said Burnish was off-duty when arrested, he was not in uniform or in an agency vehicle. Bunch said Burnish was not carrying his service weapon during the arrest.
The Sumter Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
