LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The names of the Lexington County couple who were found dead inside a Leesville home were released Saturday.

Michael Dewayne Blume, 54, and Wanda F. Howard, 61, were found dead in their home after a family member requested a welfare check, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said.

An investigation into the deaths by the Lexington County Coroner's Office and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department found that the deaths of Blume and Howard are a result of criminal domestic violence, Fisher said.

Blume and Howard had been together for 22 years and shared the home on Truex Road. Howard had recently left Blume and was staying with her daughter, but had returned to their home at the request of Blume to "talk," family members told authorities.

Fisher said Howard's daughter became worried when her mom failed to answer her cell phone and went to check on her at the couple's home.

When no one answered the door, she called the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Autopsy results show Blume shot Howard twice in the head. Blume then turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head.

Blume's mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's also lived in the home with the couple and was in the home at the time of the shooting, but she was not injured. She was taken into emergency protective custody at the scene until other family members could be contacted to care for her.

Family members told investigators the couple had  a history of domestic violence.
