Lexington County Sheriff's Department announce results of 'Support Our Troops' drive

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Lexington County Sheriff's Department donated more than 7,000 bottles of drinking water and sport drinks as well as more than 2,500 single-serving snacks on Wednesday to the USO for distribution to members of the United States armed forces.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said the Sheriff's Department and school districts collected bottled drinks and snacks during the month of May as part of the annual Support Our Troops drive for the USO. Sgt. Wesley Swinson coordinated the participation of the Sheriff's Department in the Support Our Troops drive.

The USO serves more than 7,000 members of the armed forces and their families monthly at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Between late May and August, the USO will be available to serve more than 8,100 soldiers who will report to Fort Jackson for basic military training.

Students and employees at Airport High School, Brookland-Cayce High School, including First Sgt. Al Baker and the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Northside Middle School, Pine Ridge Middle School, including the school's Honor Guard, Chapin High School, Chapin Middle School, CrossRoads Middle School, Harbison West Elementary School, Irmo Elementary School, Leaphart Elementary School and Seven Oaks Elementary School donated bottled drinks and snacks for the Support Our Troops drive, Koon said.
