COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Charles Terreni, Jr. was over four times the legal limit for alcohol intake when he died, according to a toxicology report from the Richland County Coroner's Office.
Coroner Gary Watts said Terreni, 18, had a blood alcohol level of .375 and ultimately was the cause of his death.
Watts called it a "tragic and totally preventable death."
Terreni was the son of Columbia attorney Charles Terreni, a former staff member for then-Lt. Gov. Bob Peeler, a former state Public Service Commissioner and a man involved in legislative redistricting.
One of his father's colleagues in the legal community says regardless of the circumstances that caused Charlie's death, his family has lost a "beautiful child."
The incident remains under investigation by the Columbia Police Department.
