SUMTER, SC (WIS) - A 51-year-old Sumter County man broke into a home and sexually assaulted a victim who lived there, according to investigators with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

Sumter County deputies arrested Joe Albert Hilton, Jr. and charged him with first degree burglary and first degree criminal sexual conduct.

Investigators said Hilton broke into a home on Shetland Street on April 4 and sexually assaulted the victim while the victim was asleep.

The victim and several witnesses identified Hilton as the suspect in this case after they say they saw him leave the scene.

Hilton is being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center after his bond was denied.
