LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - The Lexington Police Department needs the public's help finding a man accused of forging checks stolen from mail.

Johnnie Wayne Martin III, 49, of Lexington, is accused of stealing a check from the mail of a Lexington victim and forging it. Police say Martin presented the check at the SC State Credit Union in Lexington.

According to a news release, police say "Martin has been arrested numerous times for the same type of crimes and is a known mail fraud thief to multiple agencies in the Midlands."

To prevent mail fraud, Chief Terrence Green says live checks should not be put in unsecured mailboxes.

If you know where to find Martin, whose photo is attached to this story, call Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC. He is described as five feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 225 pounds.
