COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Charges will not be filed against a woman who fatally shot a man at a Schoolhouse Road apartment last weekend, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Coroner Gary Watts says Jermaine Johnson, 33, of Columbia, died from several gunshot wounds to the chest.
Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Simmons says the two were acquaintances.
Based on preliminary information, police say Johnson entered a woman's home and a fight occurred when she arrived home. During the fight, the woman allegedly shot the man. The man was later transported to a local hospital where he died.
Investigators combed through facts, statements, evidence and consulted with the Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office and determined the shooting was a justifiable homicide.
Timmons says Johnson had a documented history of domestic violence allegations and the female previously met with CPD to obtain an Order of Protection.
The investigation, however, will continue as authorities await forensic evidence results from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
