NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A log truck driver was killed when he was pinned between his truck and the load of another truck late Thursday afternoon near Newberry.
Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton says 51-year-old Dan Frederick Little of Jonesville was pronounced dead at 5:00 p.m.
Little entered the West Frasier, Inc. wood yard on College Street around 4:30 p.m. to deliver a load of wood.
After stopping his vehicle behind other trucks that were waiting in line, Little got out and walked to the rear of his truck to remove a load warning flag, Newton said.
At that time, another loaded log truck entered the yard and parked behind Little. The driver of the second truck got out and walked to the rear of the vehicle, the coroner said.
The second truck began to roll forward without an operator and pinned Little between the rolling truck and the load of Little's truck, The impact killed Little instantly, according to Newton.
An autopsy has been set for Friday morning.
The accident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the State Transport Police, the Newberry County Sheriffs Department, and the Newberry Coroner's Office.
