Sheriff: Woman kidnapped for drug money

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Kershaw County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a Columbia man who reportedly kidnapped a women who owed him money for crack cocaine.

Deputies said around 8:30 p.m. Thursday they were notified by a women that her sister was being held against her will by a drug dealer, who her sister owed money to.

Authorities identified the drug dealer as Terrill Levi Canzater, 25. The women and Canzater arranged to meet at a gas station in Elgin for payment and the release of her sister, authorities said. The women was told her sister and Canzater would be in a white Kia Optima.

Deputies arrived at the BP station on White Pond Road and located Canzater and the 47-year-old victim.

Canzater was taken into custody and transported to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office where he and the victim were interviewed by an investigator.

Canzater was transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing on charges of kidnapping.

"This is just another example of the problems associated with illegal drugs, either selling them or using them. Fortunately no one was hurt during this incident and hopefully the victim will seek some help with her addiction," Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said.

Canzater is a convicted felon with arrests for assault or battery by mob, petit larceny, probation violation, common law strong arm robbery, attempted burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon.
