Campbell named head football coach, athletics director at Lugoff-Elgin

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Lugoff-Elgin will have a new face running the Demons' football team.

Kershaw County School District announced the hiring of Matthew Campbell as the new head football coach and athletic director in Kershaw County. Campbell played tight end at the University of South Carolina for four years on a full scholarship before moving on to play in the NFL.

Campbell began his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints. Later, he played offensive lineman for the Carolina Panthers from 1995 to 2000 before playing short stints with the Washington Redskins and the Houston Texans.

Campbell went to on to coach offensive line and work as the offensive coordinator at Virginia Military Institute for the past five years. He also spent time as the athletic director at Cross Episcopal School in Bluffton as well as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Bluffton High for two years.

Campbell will replace Scott Jones in both positions. Jones retired in July 2014.
