Columbia Fire Department investigators have ruled the fire at the Walmart on Bush River Road was an arson.
According to investigators, that fire was deliberately set in the greeting card aisle around 6:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
In all the fire caused millions of dollars in damages.
Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says investigators are not releasing any further information about this case because the investigation is ongoing and could jeopardize any criminal proceedings.
The store's sprinkler system did activate before firefighters arrived to fully extinguish the fire.
Store employees and customers were evacuated. No injuries were reported.
The Walmart has reopened a portion of the store after staying closed on New Year's Day.
Officials with Walmart say they're hoping to have the rest of the store reopened in the coming days.
Jenkins says the next step in the investigation will be to pour over surveillance video from the store's many cameras.
