COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Starting in January, smoking and tobacco products will be prohibited on Midlands Technical College campuses.

The ban includes the use of all tobacco products, including those containing tobacco or derived from it. Nicotine replacement therapy products such as patches or gum are not included in the ban.

Previously, smoking was allowed in designated areas on the MTC property.

"Smoking and tobacco use have long been recognized as major causes of death and disease," said MTC president Dr. Marshall White, Jr. "We felt that it was important for Midlands Technical College to make this change to become a healthier place for all to teach, learn and work."
