USC student killed in crash, injures two others

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a crash in Richland County on Saturday night killed one person, and sent two others to the hospital.

According to Lance Corporal Judd Jones with the Highway Patrol, the accident happened at the intersection of Old Hopkins Road and Thrush Street just before 5:30 p.m.

Jones said the driver of a 2012 Hyundai was traveling east on Thrush Street when it went through the intersection of Old Hopkins Road and was struck by a 2007 Dodge pick-up on its cars driver side door.

Jones said the driver of the Hyundai, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the Hyundai was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the driver of the Hyundai as Kerrian Morris, 19, Watts says Morris was a student at USC.

Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
