FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Will Montgomery has won the special election for Fairfield County sheriff.

Montgomery came away with 1,970 votes while there were 125 votes for a write-in candidate.

The election comes nearly one month after Montgomery won the county's runoff election against Keith Lewis. Montgomery now becomes a third-generation sheriff following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He is set to replace former Fairfield County sheriff Herman Young who stepped down after citing health reasons.

According to the Fairfield County Elections Commission, the results from Tuesday's election will be certified at 10 a.m. on Friday.
