(Maryville, Missouri-AP) Dec. 17, 2004 - A Kansas woman has been charged with killing a pregnant Missouri woman in the victim's home, then removing and kidnapping the baby the dying woman was carrying.
The infant girl, one month short of being full-term, has been located and is in good health. The Nodaway County's sheriff says the baby was found in Kansas, after an Amber Alert led to an anonymous tip.
A criminal complaint says Lisa Montgomery admits strangling 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett and taking the baby. Stinnett was found barely alive and died at a hospital.
The complaint says Montgomery went to Stinnett's home on the pretext of buying a dog. Montgomery is charged with kidnapping resulting in death.
The baby was found in an eastern Kansas home where a car matching a description offered earlier was in the driveway. The baby's father, at work when his wife was attacked, has been reunited with his daughter.
Hospital officials say the girl, named Victoria Jo, is in good condition at a Topeka hospital. The father is calling her "a miracle." He also thanked everyone for their help and support.
