BISHOPVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A Bishopville woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for stabbing her 81-year-old neighbor to death.
The Sumter Item reports 27-year-old Yahisha Barr was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Barr was arrested and originally charged with murder after the body of George Hardoman was found on the kitchen floor of his home in July 2013.
Authorities said Hardoman had been stabbed dozens of times and bled to death. Investigators arrested Barr two days later after finding traces of the man's blood on her and at her house.
Barr's attorneys said she had had a traumatic sexual experience as a teenager and was drinking heavily and using drugs at the time of Hardoman's death.
